Enjoying a lifestyle in a natural context
This modern style home is situated at the brow of the Niagara Escarpment. The front of the house was a clean slate, but the backyard space had challenging sloped areas with breathtaking views of nature and wildlife.
The goal was to blend the modern style look of the house to a similar style landscape, address the awkward slope, and incorporate functional rear living spaces for dining and entertaining. The intent was to tie every aspect of the design into a respect and appreciation for the surrounding nature.
The front of the house was designed with mass planted perennial beds for seasonal interest, balanced against the unusual proportions of the frontage. The backyard design incorporated terraces, raised planting beds, and tiered gardens. Design elements, including a large water feature, merged with nature, to connect the environments and create a holistic effect.
