Creating a low-maintenance space with a modern flair
This intimate space lacked privacy and functional usable spaces. The out-of-town owners used the house as a weekend retreat, thus low-maintenance upkeep was number one on their wish list.
The goal for this design was to create a usable entertaining and lounging space for homeowners to enjoy on weekends, without requiring excessive time spent in the upkeep of the space. They also requested a focal point within the area for interest.
Linear terraces were designed to organize the space into dining, lounging and entertaining areas. Crisp, intermittent stepping stone panels were used to lead the eye (and feet) to a tiered water feature framed with plants. Artificial turf was incorporated for no-maintenance lawn areas along with easy-upkeep mass perennial and ornamental grass plantings.
