Use of materials and textures create privacy
This front entrance had a wrap-around driveway with no curb appeal. The closeness of the sidewalk and open front yard left homeowners feeling exposed.
The goal of this project was to create a private courtyard that separated the front yard property from the relatively busy public space at the sidewalk and road. Clean lines with contrasting garden plantings were also on the homeowner’s wish list.
A low hedge and gate near the sidewalk delineated public and private space with tact, while lawn areas and stonework were used to add the feeling of distance between the domains. Diverse gardens of evergreens, flowering trees and perennials surrounding a patio created a formal but inviting courtyard. The design was layered with stone steps and raised planters to give a sleek, modern look.
